What I did on my holidays

Just came across these: 1 and 2
Quite long, but they really capture something of what it was like 🙂 I’m even on the second one (albeit briefly) and so is A (but being cuddled by someone else because I was doing things with the fire).

Anyone want to come along (participating or visiting) next year?

  1. Have been wanting to visit for 2 years (only heard about it last year). Participating sounded tougher on the accommodation front than Kessie! Not for me.

Is it better to organise a “school” visit mid week or is it ok (ie not horrendously crowded) on the family weekend dates?

  2. I was thinking about that when we were there and I suspect that the best thing would be a group visit on a freeflow day (usually Weds, some Fridays). That way you get the best of both worlds: a designated time slot (school), everyone in costume (school – sorry, it may be a pain to do but it really does add to the magic) but no set route or itinerary so you can go where you like, when you like and double back to see things again if you wish (like a w/e). There is definitely a different atmosphere on group days to that at the w/e.

  3. I’d love to actually participate, but not convinced I’m up to it – sure the kids would get a huge amount out of it.

  4. I’d really love to participate, bit daunted by the idea, but will def have a proper think about it for next year. It really apeals to me. Not sure what to do about my dreadlocks though!

  5. Jax, I can really see you doing it. I think you and the kids would get a lot out of it – especially once they feel at home and go off with their friends, leaving you to get on with whatever activity you chose to do 😉 If it would help, I have a certain amount of spare costume (assuming you don’t want to be posh) which would probably fit you and a few bits which might fit your children (remember boys under about 4 wear dresses!) 🙂

    Alison – errrmmmm…

Em – a really large coif?

  6. Looks bonkers but fun!

I can’t imagine persuading L but the littles would have a great laugh. But what about bf? I know the Tudors did it but no bf tops or bras for them!! Not to mention glasses/contact lenses — natural selection would have finished me off pronto if I’d been a Tudor.
