Mouse control

I noticed today that F, the 4 year old we often have round for tea on Thursdays, was struggling to use the mouse, which K (also 4) and even L (2) use with relative ease. L in particular has got into poisson rouge recently and her mouse control has come on leaps and bounds, but I think the real breakthrough was when she discovered that clicking and dragging icons on the desktop made them move. We never quite know where anything will be when we get back to the screen!
Hopefully next week I will have more energy to do things with them, rather than sitting feeling sorry for myself and letting them watch far too many videos and play for far too long on the computer; however much I tell myself it’s educational and a break will do them good, I’m still not quite convinced…

We have a trackball which SB found easier when she was little (actually I think she probably found the trackpad on the laptop easiest). Though I suspect those small laptop mice you can get would also be better for little hands. One of the big problems they seem to have is the mouse moving when they try to click the button, becuase they can’t hold it well enough

We have a small mouse we got for K when he first started wanting to play with/on the computer and his hands were too small to manage the full-size mouse. I should fish it out really, as ISTR it differentiated better between left and right buttons and that is L’s biggest problem. Also, our current mouse is cordless and gets carried around and dropped a bit too often for my liking, whereas the mini one would be firmly attached!
We looked into trackballs when we got the mini mouse, as I’ve used them with disabled children before and found them great, but the ones we could find were just too expensive.
